How Your Lifestyle Causes Cracked Heels
Imagine a bright sunny day. You jump out of bed, get dressed, walk past the neighbours, and just when you’re about to reach your office… Argh! You feel a sharp jab of pain in your heels.
You may not realise it now, but your daily activities could cause cracked heels down the road, and this will affect your lifestyle. If your daily routine involves any of the below activities, you’re more likely to get cracked heels.
Standing longer than 8 hours
Many studies have shown that standing for 8 hours will cause pain to your feet (Waters & Dick, 2015). If you’re always constantly on your feet, the daily pressure on your feet will eventually lead to cracked heels.
Sitting down once in a while or standing for a lesser number of hours will help in not only preventing cracked heels but with your posture as well.
Being barefoot or wearing open-heeled/ill-fitting shoes
As much as we enjoy being barefoot at home or wearing the latest fashionable shoes, this increases friction to our feet (Emedi Health, 2020). And what happens when there’s friction? Dry skin. And what happens after that? You guessed it: cracked heels.
So as tempted as we are to be barefooted or owning the latest pair of shoes, we need to consider the long-term effects of these on our feet.
Long, hot showers
Most of us enjoy a long, hot shower after a busy day, but this dries out the skin because you’re washing away the natural oils your skin produces (Huffpost, 2016).
But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your showers! Just make sure the water temperature is not above 43 degrees to keep moisture in your skin (Wall Street Journal, 2016).
Cold temperatures or low humidity
Staying or working in places with low temperature and humidity dries out the skin badly too. Your skin has to work even harder to produce natural oils to keep your skin moisturized.
To protect your skin, remember these 2 words: moisturize and socks. You can moisturize your heels using Ellgy Plus Cracked Heel Cream and also wear cotton socks to protect them (Medical News Today, 2020).
Medical causes
There are also some health reasons which make it harder to prevent cracked heels (Health Line, 2019), such as:
- Diabetes
- Vitamin deficiency
- Fungal infection
- Psoriasis
- Obesity
- Pregnancy
No matter what’s the cause, we’re here to help you achieve smooth and moisturized heels so you’ll always feel like you’re walking on sunshine. Read our previous article to find out how Ellgy Plus can help to heal your cracked heels in just 3 days [link to the previous article.
